Therapy Groups 

  • new Executive Functions Training: PART 1
    For students aged 11-16 with executive functioning and/or organizational challenges.   Participants will work individually and in small groups on exercises and activities to develop:
    ·        working memory
    ·        time management
    ·        planning and organization
    ·        self monitoring 
    Groups will be facilitated by an Occupational Therapist and assistants.  Group size:  4-6 participants.
    Dates/times: 6 weeks.  Tuesdays, 4:30-6:00, Jan. 29-March 5, 2013.     Cost: $200.  Location:  Peterborough

    For students aged 11-16 with executive functioning and/or organizational challenges.   Participants will work individually and in small groups on exercises and activities to develop:
    ·        attention awareness & self-monitoring
    ·        flexible thinking
    ·        planning and organization
    ·        setting goals and self-evaluating 
    Groups will be facilitated by an Occupational Therapist and assistants.  Group size:  4-6 participants.
    Dates/times: 6 weeks.  Wednesdays 4:30-6:00, April 3-May 8, 2013.    Cost: $200.  Location:  Peterborough

  • *new Toolbox for TEENS: Managing Anxiety  
    This 6 week Cognitive Behavior Therapy approach to managing anxiety is geared towards teens with Aspergers, general anxiety, or other social-communication or learning challenges.  In this program, which draws from the work of Isabelle Henault and Tony Attwood, participants will build an Emotional Toolbox to understand and manage feelings of anxiety, and develop practical tools to use at school, community, and home. Some take-home projects and home support will be required.    Groups will be facilitated by an Occupational Therapist and assistants.  Group size:  6-8 participants.
    Dates/times: 6 weeks. (spring start date t.b.a.).  Cost: $175.

  • Self-regulation:   Building an Emotional Toolbox
    In this 10 week program, which draws from the work of Isabelle Henault and Tony Attwood, participants will build an Emotional Toolbox. In the first part of the course each child will learn to develop their own "feelings thermometer". We will then develop a "tool box" for learning to regulate emotional responses, behaviors, and to utilize socially appropriate alternatives. At the end of the session, each child will have a real "toolbox" that they can take with them to use at home and ideally, at school. Parent/caregiver participation in this process is required.  This group is geared towards children  ages 7-12 with Aspergers, anxiety, emotional management issues, and other social-communication challenges.
     
    Dates/times:  
     10 Tuesdays, 4:30-5:45, starting March 26 - May 28, 2013.   Group size:  6 participants with parent/caregiver.
    Location:  Peterborough.   Cost: $240

    Fees:  Participation in this group will be 

    partially subsidized by Autism Ontario for children with a formal diagnosis of
    Aspergers/Autism Spectrum Disorder.

  • Social Communication & Play
    For children Ages 4-6 with Autism or other social/communication challenges.  Parent/caregiver participation is required.   This group will focus on increasing your child's social, communication and play skills as well as social skills necessary for success at preschool and school.  Strategies and tips for home and school will be reviewed and modeled throughout the group sessions.  Group size:  4-6 children with parent/caregiver.   Facilitator: Angela Turner, RECE.E, Preschool Resource Teacher.
    Location:  Peterborough
    Dates/Times:  6 Saturday mornings 10:00-11:30.  Starting date Feb. 2, 2013
    Fees:

  • *LEGO Group 
    For children ages 5-12 with Asperger's, anxiety or other social-communication challenges.   Participants will have the opportunity to build communication and cooperative play skills while working on structured lego activities.  Group size:  6-8 participants.  Cost: $100/4 wk session

  • Social Skills/Play Group for children ages 6-9 with Asperger's, anxiety, or other social-communication challenges.  Each session will include structured social learning activities, free play, and snack. 
    Group size:  4-6 children. 
    Dates/times: 10:00-11:30 a.m.  6 Saturday mornings.  Cost: $175.    Location:  Peterborough.      

 

  • *Social Skills Group for teens/tweens.
    Topics will include communication skills, friendship skills, self-esteem, and age related topics.   Groups are geared towards individuals with Aspergers, NVLD, anxiety, or other mild social-communication challenges, and will provide structured learning and friendship/social opportunities.   Groups will be facilitated by an Occupational Therapist and assistants.  Group size:  6-8 participants.
    Dates/times: 6 weeks. Cost: $175. Location: Ptbo. SESSION 1 (ages 15-18): 6 Tuesdays,  7:00-8:30 p.m. starting May 14-June 18, 2013 *now registering
    SESSION 2 (ages 10-14): 6 Tuesdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m. starting March 26-April 30, 2013. 

Adult Group 

  • Adult meeting/support group - This monthly meeting group is open to adults with Asperger's (formal diagnosis not required) ages 18-30 and is an informal discussion and information sharing group, and will provide opportunity to socialize with peers.  Topics may include experiences with employment, community resources, educational experiences, life/relationship issues, and special interests.  Participation is free of charge.

  • *Sibshop!  Sibling Support Group
    An opportunity for siblings, ages 6-12 to participate with other siblings of children with Autism Spectrum, and to explore feelings and build friendship while participating in fun activities.   Now registering for May/June dates.   4 Friday night sessions.
