 Social & Therapy Groups

  • Lego Group
    For children ages 7-12. Participants will have the opportunity to build social-communication and cooperative play skills while working on structured lego activities.  Group size:  4-6 participants.  Dates/Times:  4 Tuesdays, 4:15-5:15 p.m. starting Tuesday October 3rd, 2017.  Cost:  $100.   * A portion of this fee may be subsidized by Autism Ontario Potential Progamme. 

  • Social Skills & Play group ages 7-10

    A 4 week social skills building group for children ages 7-10 with anxiety, or other mild social-communication challenges.  Each session will include activity-based  and structured social learning.  Sessions will cover conversational skills, non-verbal communication, and cooperation skills.  Snack also provided.  Group size:  4-6 children.  Cost:  $175  Dates/Times:  4 Tuesdays 4:15-5:30 p.m. starting Nov. 7th, 2017.
     
  • Self-esteem and confidence building for tweens
    In this 4 week group, students will work through group and individual activities to build confidence, improve self-awareness, and learn tools for developing and maintaining healthy self-esteem.  Sessions will utilize tools from both CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Mindfulness principles.  Facilitated by an Occupational Therapist.  Approx ages.  10-14.  Dates/Times:  4 Tuesdays, 6:45-8:00 p.m. starting October 3rd, 2017.  Cost:  $150

    Cooking Group for Tweens
    An interactive cooking and social group for youth to increase confidence and independence with meal preparation and healthy eating.  Topics will include meal planning, food prepration, following a recipe, kitchen safety, clean-up, and social aspects of sharing a meal.  Facilitated by an Occupational Therapist.  Location: Ptbo.
    Dates/times: 
    4 Wednesdays 4:30-6:00 starting Nov. 8, 2017. 
    Cost: $180  (includes food costs).

  • Introduction to Executive Functions for teens
    For students aged 11-16 with executive functioning and/or organizational challenges.   Participants will work individually and in small groups on exercises and activities to develop working memory, organization, and focus/attention.   Tools and strategies will be provided to take home. Group will be facilitated by an Occupational Therapist and assistants.  Group size:  4-6 participants. Location: Peterborough.
    Dates/times:  4 Tuesdays 6:45-8:00 p.m. starting November 7th, 2017.  Cost:  $200

  • Pre-school & parent play group (ages 2-5)
    This group will include play-based learning activities that include fine motor, gross motor and social/play development.  Sessions will be facilitated by an Occupational Therapist and assistant(s).  Take home tips and strategies will be provided with each session.    Dates/Times: 4 Saturday mornings 10:00-11:00 a.m.   Oct. 28, Nov 11, 25, Dec. 10, 2017.  Group size 3-5 participants with caregiver. 
    *This group will be partially subsidized through Autism Ontario.

  • Pokemon Club
    **Next session: Sunday Oct. 29, 2017, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m.
    Group Description:  A social group for children of all ages to chat about Pokemon, share and talk about Pokemon figures, cards, books, etc.  Please contact us for details.

  • Caregiver Support Group

    A monthly support group (first Wednesday of every month)  for parents/caregivers of children on the spectrum and/or with other hidden disabilities.  This group will include information sharing, peer support and educational opportunities.

    * sponsored by and presented in partnership with Autism Ontario Potential Programme.)

    For teens/pre-teens:  Topics will include conversation skills, friendship skills, self-esteem, and tools for social anxiety.  Groups are geared towards individuals with Asperger's, NVLD, anxiety, or other mild social-communication challenges, and will provide structured learning of social skills to improve confidence and self-esteem.   Group size:  6-8 participants.  Dates/Times:  6 Tuesdays.

  • Social/Play group (ages 6-8)
    This group will provide opportunities for social learning, play skills, and sensory-motor development. Sessions will be facilitated by an Occupational Therapist and assistant(s).  Take home tips and strategies will be provided with each session.    Dates/Times: 4 Saturday mornings 10:00-11:00 a.m.  Dates t.b.a.  Group size 3-5 participants.

  • Self-Regulation - Anxiety Toolbox for Tweens 
    A 6 week group (ages 10-14) to help students learn practical tools to manage anxiety and develop better self-regulation.  Topics will include understanding the reasons for anxiety, learning to recognize anxiety and personal triggers, and will teach tools from both CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Mindfulness principles, as well as Sensory processing components.
    Dates/times: t.b.a.  Cost:  $200

  • Music Therapy for Youth
    A 4 week music therapy group for youth, facilitated by a Registered Music Therapist. Music therapy may include hand-held instruments, rhythm activities, and other musical techniques to encourage self-expression, enjoyment and interaction.  Group size:  6-8 participants.  Location:  Peterborough.
